At the New York Health meeting last night, Sue, who has been doing data entry of the “Vote” cards, said that I could inquire from Andrew about getting training in software that could be used to do that entry from home (with an internet connection). I work with data and would be glad to volunteer. What is the quickest way to get at it? Go ahead and text me if that’s the best way to answer this, but I prefer not to get a lot of texts in general. Thanks!

Are you involved with the women’s march on Washington next week? I want to knit a pussy hat and give it to someone from Rochester who is going. Can you give me a contact? Thanks.

Is Metro Justice planning a “Thank you New York State!” event for Dec. 31 when the state’s minimum wage rises? Considering POTUS-elect’s nominee of Andrew Puzder for Secretary of Labor, we New Yorkers have a lot to be thankful for and can let the rest of the country – or at least our state lawmakers – know it. I don’t see anything on your Calendar page about this. Or are you planning to hold this event in warmer weather?

Hi, I’m sure your organization is aware of this. But, in case you did not know, here’s a link. https://thinkprogress.org/trump-gets-to-decide-where-in-dc-groups-can-protest-his-inauguration-if-at-all-13d9546edde0#.nuqgtt45y

My son and I are planning on taking the MJ bus down to DC for the inauguration. Please contact me with details. We would also like to march the next day in the Million Woman March. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Toth

I am wondering if metro justice has plans or if there is interest to contract buses to go to D>C. for the January 21st Million Women March?

I was disappointed and disturbed on hearing that Metro Justice refused to allow Feminists for Nonviolent Choices join the Peace Parade. I understand that protecting the right to choose is a priority for MJ and I appreciate that. I certainly do not want to see a loss of that right. However, some women do make other choices out of conscience and they also have the right to choose. We do not have to agree with everyone we ally with. If our common ground is strong, we can disagree on other issues. The parade yesterday was to remember those who have suffered and died in war, not just in the US forces, but around the world. It was to ask our community to consider alternatives to sending more people into harm’s way. There was an animal rights group marching and I am sure that I do not agree with them on what is probably a major thrust of their belief system. I eat meat and I keep pets. Does Metro Justice agree with them on their issues? Does that mean that I can’t join with them in saying that we want a peaceful world? I did join the Peace Parade yesterday because I wanted to support Wilma. Had I not heard that she tried very hard to persuade MJ to give up the exclusion of FNVC I would have stayed away. I am a Quaker and I believe that each of us sees the truth by our own Light. I don’t know if I would have been comfortable agreeing to the Meeting’s support of the Peace Parade had we known about this exclusion at the time that we were asked for that support. I hope you at MJ think long and hard about this and how you live out your own philosophy and beliefs.

I find it heartening that you want to make sure the Women’s Equality Act passes. As a many decades-long feminist, this is very important.

However, why is it scheduled at the same time as the 16-year major event – Human Rights Day- held every year at the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of HR, in Rochester? Some conflicts are unavoidable, but surely women’s rights are human rights, you are a co-sponsor of this event, and even have a table.

Many of us would have come if this had been scheduled at another time.

    Hi folks at Metro Justice,

My name is Devi Jennings and I am with GMO-Free Rochester. We have a website (wordpress) and a page on Facebook under that name. We are affiliated with GMO Free NY and The Institute for Responsible Technology. As you may or may not know, we have a bill here in NY that would make labeling of GMOs in our foods mandatory if it were passed into law. This is definitely an action whose time has come! The biggest battle we’re going to have in getting GMO labeling through the NY legislature is with the Assemblymembers and Senators from upstate, western, and central NY. In order to show these legislators how much support there is in their districts, we need to get as many food retailers, nonprofits, faith-based groups, food/environmental/consumer/public health advocacy orgs, farms, chefs/restaurants! Please contact me or NY GE Food Labeling Campaign Director Stacie Orell at stacieorell@gmail.com to learn how to sign on and join the list. Here are some of the endorsers: http://gmofreeny.net/nygelabelingcampaign.html

I hope we’ll hear from you. Together we can make this happen.

    Season’s Greetings,

    Devi Jennings

    Paula,

When I clicked on the link for council expectations for the new term it did not take me to the site. I am willing to be on council for the 2014-2015 term.
