Laura Phonarath-- At-Large Member

A lifelong Rochesterian, Laura is experienced in urban organizing and consumer advocacy. Her activism began in college with an internship in labor organizing. She is passionate about civic engagement and enjoys mentoring and volunteering. This is Laura’s first year on the council.

Meet the Council Member - Larry Knox

Larry Knox-- At-Large Member

Larry is currently a Political and Communications Coordinator for 1199 SEIU.  He was also the Regional Campaign Coordinator for the Barack Obama campaign in 2008 and the WNY staffer for Organizing for America after the election. Married with four daughters, he got his start in politics while volunteering in high school for his State Senator.

Meet the Council Member - Lynn Giglio

Lynn Giglio -- At-Large Member

Lynn is a second year Council member. She is a part-time steward for her union, UAW Local 1097, and a delegate to the Rochester Labor Council. She is an all around activist and an aspiring organizer.

Meet the Council Member - Sarah Gardener

Sarah Gardener -- At-Large Member

Sarah is a long time member of Metro Justice. She was active in the Nuclear Free Zone Committee, and has served in many other ways over the years.  She is currently active with the Annual Dinner Committee. She has retired from a career in architecture.

Meet the Council Member - Jo Cummings

Jo Cummings -- At-Large Member

A Rochester native, Jo is a retired social worker with the City School District, and second year Council member. She is committed to the Dignified Retirement Committee and strengthening Social Security, and is involved in the Annual Dinner Committee. Jo is also active with the Band of Rebels.

Meet the Council Member - Wilma Campbell

Wilma Campbell -- At-Large Member

Wilma is a member of our Racial Justice Committee.  She is a Board member of the GRCC-Faith in Action Network and volunteers with the Alternatives to Violence Project, which is dedicated to teaching the same non-violent skills and techniques that were used by Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Meet the Council Member - Michael Argaman

Michael Argaman-- At-Large Member

Michael has been a past Treasurer and is a member of our Racial Justice Committee.  He has been involved in our Ciudad Hermana, ROCLA and Tikkun Task Forces. He currently works as a financial advisor with a focus on socially-responsible investing.

Meet the Council Member - Jake Allen

Jake Allen -- At-Large Member

This is Jake’s second year as a member of Council.  He is an organizer with SEIU Local 200 United and a member of Rochester Red & Black. Jake has been an organizer in a variety of social movements since he was in high school. He is currently active in the Housing is a Human Right Committee.

Meet 2014 Council--Aaron Micheau

Aaron Micheau--2014 Secretary

Aaron has been a member of Metro Justice since 2003 and has served as Secretary and Personnel Chairperson during those years.  He helped to draft contracts and assisted with the incorporation of the 501(c)(4).


Meet 2014 Council--John Keevert

John Keevert--2014 Treasurer

John is a retired photographic scientist who has been a member of Metro Justice since the 1970’s.  He has served several stints as Treasurer in the past.  His interests include promoting fair trade-not free trade, environmental justice, and Ciudad Hermana.  He is currently active in the Dignified Retirement Campaign.
