Speak Out for Childcare
Published February 2002

The County Executive wants to cut back on the number of people in Monroe County who would qualify for subsidized child care.

His proposal will mean that about 2,000 children of low-income parents in Monroe County would lose funding for day care.Under his proposed changes, residents who make more than 125 percent of the poverty level would not be eligible for subsidized day care. The current ceiling is 200 percent.  If you do not support such a reduction you have two opportunities to speak out:

  1. Human Services Committee, Monroe County Lege, Tuesday, Feb 5th at 3:30.
  2. Full County Legislature Meeting, Tuesday, Feb 12th at 6:00 pm.

Both meetings are held in the Legislative Chambers, Room 406, Monroe County Office Building, 4th Floor, (39 West Main Street).

If you plan to speak you have to sign up by calling 428-5350. You will have two minutes to speak.
The NY State budget proposed by Gov. Pataki also has cuts in funding for child care. You may want to express your opinions on this to him and state legislators, and carefully monitor the progress of the budget
