Labor Lyceum at the Gleason

On Feb. 16th at the Gleason Auditorium, Rochester Public Library, the Labor Lyceum presented a program on images of workers in pop culture; balding, brawny or bimboesque. 
The forum was led by panelists: 

• Janet Zandy, who dicussed her work at RIT with students who photograph and tell stories about workers, 
• Lauren Pivkick, who teaches sociology at MCC and presented a social analysis
• Renan Salgado who works at FLSNY and related the topic to development issues in Latin America, 
• and Joan Collins Lambert who discussed bias in the media. 

With wry humor, professional precision, biting sarcasm and powerful criticism, the panel and the audience questions and comments were enough to make me go home, throw my tv out, cancel my newspaper subsciption, boycott Hollywood, burn down billboards, picket Wal-Mart and COME BACK NEXT MONTH.
