Peace Action &
Education (PA&E) was established in the Fall of 2003 as a task force
of Metro Justice to continue to build the important work of coordinating
Rochester’s peace and anti-war initiatives.
PA&E’s
mission is three-fold: coalition building with local and national peace
groups; political self-education and public education; and strategic
campaigns and initiatives.
Since
its founding, PA&E has taken a leading role in our community’s
anti-war activities by: coordinating numerous bus caravans to New York
City and Washington, DC, in solidarity with national calls to action
against the invasion and occupation of Iraq, as well as to the demonstrations
at the Republican National Convention and the Counter Inauguration.
These efforts also raised funds and provided new opportunities for students
and others to become involved in peace action;
Organizing
rallies and vigils such as the annual Memorial Day “Memorial in
Time of War,” and ongoing twice-monthly silent vigils to protest
the war and occupation of Iraq; developing a community-based art installation,
“Art in Time of War,” embodying our community’s reactions
to war in lasting visual expression;
Initiating
the Mobilization for Our Children’s Peaceful Future, a strategic
anti-war campaign begun with a massive rally and march, co-sponsored
by 20 local organizations. This mobilization has sparked the emergence
of a powerful new coalition, Rochester Against War (RAW), whose focus
includes counter recruitment, opposition to the draft and ROTC, support
for war resisters, alliance with military families and veterans, and
lobbying for legislative initiatives to end the war and occupation.
PA&E welcomes
your participation and support.
