Mobilize Against Property Tax Hikes
Target COMIDA for Reform
Who: Members of Henrietta
Neighbors United and the Initiative for Development Accountability
Where:
What: Henrietta residents
will be tabling and talking about taxes to other Henrietta residents 5 days
before the tax lines will start forming at the
When: Wednesday,
April 12th, 10:30am-noon
Why: Henrietta’s most
recent round of property tax assessments is upsetting seniors on fixed incomes.
Henrietta receives a disproportionate amount of COMIDA projects which means
less revenue is collected for the town and school district. Henrietta
Supervisor Jim Breese says that each homeowner is paying an extra $524 due to
these COMIDA deals. A statewide initiative is pushing to create accountability
in the IDA system. The current law allows IDA’s to give out tax breaks without
requiring businesses to create the jobs that they promised or pay prevailing
wages or hire locally.
