Black Panther Party member, Jalil Muntaqim, has been in the prison system for 43 years. In the mid-70's Jalil was a target of the FBI's COINTELPRO - a program to destabilize, discredit, and destroy the black freedom movement and particularly the Black Panther Party. Years into Jalil's term in prison, it has been clearly demonstrated that COINTELPRO used tactics as extreme as framing and assassination of key Freedom Movement leaders. Under this program, Jalil was convicted of murder and has since spent 43 years in prison.

To this day, many prisoners of the COINTELPRO era are still in prison. This June, Jalil comes up for parole from Attica. He has 750 letters attesting to his rehabilitation and good character, including one from the family of an officer he is accused of killing expressing their doubts that he is the killer.

Like many other political prisoners, there is an on-going campaign by the Fraternal Order of the Police and Police Benevolent Associations to refuse his parole. This is his 8th attempt at parole in front of a parole board largely comprised of ex-law enforcement. 

It's time to make clear that we support the release of COINTELPRO political prisoners and demand the parole of Jalil Muntaqim! We hope that you'll join us for this rally at the regional parole board offices to drop petitions and a letter.
