Thursday, July 9 7-9pm, Metro Justice Office: Whistle Kit Social Want a fun, easy way to plug in to making our communities safer? Come help us put together ICE alert whistle kits over ice cream and a movie! Attendees will help us replenish our supply as well as take some whistle kits home to distribute to friends and families. You can also meet some like-minded people and pick our brains about how we can minimize the threat of ICE in our community!
Saturday, July 11, 12-4pm, Metro Justice Office: Canvass Day: Protect Our Neighbors from ICE Join us as we continue our canvassing efforts to keep each other safe from ICE! We will be canvassing to inform neighbors of their rights and build up communities that can provide sanctuary for themselves. Training and snacks will be provided at the Metro Justice Office before we hit the road.
Thursday, July 16 6-8 pm at the Pittsford Library Fletcher Steele Room and on zoom: Elder Justice Committee Meeting. There is a lot going on! Check out the photo above, of the table where EJC added over 40 new signatures to our petition to increase the Personal Needs Allowance for seniors living in nursing homes. Thanks to Ruth Russell for helping make the table such a success! At this month's meeting we will further plans for an August 12 Legislative Brunch focusing on raising the Allowance.
Sunday, July 26 12:30-2:00 pm Member & Volunteer Orientation [RESCHEDULED] Our next hybrid member & volunteer workshop is coming up already — and has just been moved back to Sunday, July 26th! If you're sick of doomscrolling or refreshing polls then this is a great way to learn about the many ways you can help make a real difference. You can join in person or over Zoom!
Tuesday, August 18 7-8:30 pm Save the date! A Healthcare Town Hall will gather medical professionals and state legislators to answer questions about healthcare coverage in our current crisis.
No space to volunteer but still looking to support what we do? Becoming a Metro Justice Member is always a great way to do so. For decades, membership dues have served to drive our campaign work while keeping us accountable to this community. Friday, July 10, 7-8pm at the Unreliable Narrator Bookstore, Signal App 101 Signal is a communication app that provides privacy with end-to-end encryption between users. In this class you will get a basic overview of Signal, with room for questions and hands-on help. No experience with Signal prior to the class is needed — come with your questions and willingness to learn! Free to attend, sign ups encouraged but not required.
Saturday, July 11 1-4 pm Join A Garden Stroll in the Upper Monroe Neighborhood between Cobbs Hill Park and Pinnacle Hill. Start your self-guided stroll based on your own schedule using a provided map. Meet and chat with gardeners at every location. Click here for more information and free tickets.
Monday, July 13, 6-7pm Zoom Data Center Teach-In: Citizen Action Climate Committee Join Citizen Action members from across the state for our monthly Climate Committee meeting. This month, we’ll dig into what data centers are and the threats they pose to our communities, hear your concerns, and talk about how we’re fighting back by passing crucial legislation to pause these projects.
