It was an honor to be in solidarity with you to defend reproductive justice last Saturday.

Our only way to build and protect reproductive justice, once and for all, is to build collective power against the ruling class and take bold action. We must organize with vision, strategy, creativity, and militancy. 

All sponsoring organizations, including Metro Justice, are debriefing our activity so far and discussing next steps. Here at Metro Justice, we plan to encourage the formation of a local strategy and organizing plan that coordinates with a national strategy. Our Organizing Director, Mohini Sharma, is contacting national networks to ask if such organizing conversations are happening at a national level, and how we can plug in. We hope to have an update for you next week!

Metro Justice has been a member-based and member-driven social movement organization in Rochester, NY since 1965. Our mission is to fight for racial, social, and economic justice by building multi-racial mass movements led by the working class which strive for structural change. 

The fight for universal, public healthcare is essential to reproductive justice in the long-term. The right to abortion and reproductive health is not real if the cost of care is too expensive. Metro Justice is a founding organization for the Campaign for NY Health: a statewide coalition fighting for the NY Health Act. The NY Health Act would create a universal, public, and single-payer healthcare system in NYS so that all New Yorkers can get the care they need without expensive premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and limited networks. 

Here is what you can to today: 

• Join Rochester for NY Health, the local chapter of the Campaign for NY Health. Our next organizing meeting is this Monday, May 23rd at 6 PM and will be run hybrid style. • Donate to the following abortion access funds:
  • The NY State Abortion Access Fund through the Rochester Socialist Feminist Collective
  • The abortion fund of Indigenous Women Rising, which helps specifically Indigenous or undocumented people access safe abortions.

All our movement work is only possible because of the contributions of hundreds of members who work hard every day as volunteers fighting for justice and liberation for all.
