Education is liberation: Metro Justice Speakers Bureau - Metro Justice

Education is liberation: Metro Justice Speakers Bureau

Later this month, Metro Justice will be announcing to dozens of community organizations, block clubs, unions, churches, and schools the creation of our Speakers Bureau.

We know that building movements for social justice requires a shift in consciousness among many of the people in our city. While many of our core values are incredibly popular, the specifics of some arguments are lost, and often members of the public are easily manipulated because they lack awareness of many important details of policy decisions being made or proposed. [More after the Jump]

Within Metro Justice, we are dedicating ourselves to ensuring that the broader public is educated for their liberation and are told the real story behind major economic and political decisions. We are wrapping up the development of presentations for each of our major campaigns: Housing is a Human Right, Dignified Retirement for All, and Health Care is a Human Right.

We will also develop presentations that introduce the Fight for Economic Justice campaign and a basic introduction to Racial Justice.

Each of these presentations will not only be geared towards helping to further educate many in our community about the issues they face on a daily basis, but on how to mobilize and build organizations to fight back. Education is nothing without genuine empowerment.

We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the help of the First Unitarian Church’s Social Justice Grant. We continue to thank them for their support of this new and exciting endeavor.

In the coming months, we will be sending out hundreds of brochures announcing our Speakers Bureau. If you or anyone you know would be interested in hosting presentations, email [email protected] or call the office at 325-2560.
