Rochester for NY Health - Rochester chapter of CNYH, Rochester Citywide Tenants Union, and Metro Justice would like to invite you to a press conference to highlight the urgency of making housing and healthcare human rights in New York State! We demand passage of the NY Health Act and the NY Homes Guarantee!
All of us are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, which has led to unemployment levels that have not been seen since the Great Depression. The public health and economic crises were severely exacerbated by a government response that laid bare the inequalities along class and racial lines. The bailouts made white billionaires richer to the tune of half a trillion dollars, while Black people and people of color were disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 deaths, job loss, and housing instability. The murder of George Floyd sparked simmering outrage at state violence and injustice that Black people have been subjected to for hundreds of years and to this day.
We are holding a press conference to announce that NY State needs to take urgent action to provide healthcare and housing for all New Yorkers as a human right, so that no one has to choose between paying to keep a roof over their head, or paying for their health care, or providing food and other basic necessities for themselves and their children.
We demand passage of the NY Health Act and the NY Homes Guarantee now!
All are requested to wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Please wear black in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
We will have signs. If you want to make your own, please make sure they are supporting housing and health care as a human right, and/or Black Lives Matter.
