A: When I tried the membership site yesterday (Aug. 27), I couldn’t get on. But it worked today. Nothing else was frustrating for me.

A: First well done with the survey , I would want to see more content that was by members with a political edge so some type— the idea of having Bill do a blog etc is a good one,-
A: I thin in line with what we talked about in the office- there’s not enough there – maybe two more photos on slide show (also one photo is about 2 years old) more content??? If I were new to Mj would this really grab my attention enough and give me enough info so that I would want to join?
A: I have none. The website is pretty bare-bones.
A: I would love to see a site (maybe not Metro Justice) that covered all the different progressive/left groups in Rochester. What they’re up to, what their strengths and weaknesses are, etc. And then it would start a pan-left conversation about certain topics.
I actually don’t think MJ could host it, because it would by nature have to be critiquing movement allies sometimes. Example: “Why does group X insist of doing action Y? It just makes us all look bad because Z”. Or: “We seem to always prioritize legacy media coverage in our actions. Are there other goals we can strive for instead?”
So what could actually show up on MJ that I would like?
MORE COVERAGE OF VICTORIES.
More excitement about when we’re winning. (We meaning the movement). More excitement about other people’s great work.
More information about what the different MJ teams/committees/staff are doing.

A: Here are my thoughts as I browsed the site:
+ Buttons are ugly! But maybe that makes them stand out more.
+ I like the new frontpage.
+ Everything seems integrated nicely.
+ The latest event is the medicare one from July. This does not paint a picture of a vibrant organization.
+ The frontpage for nb seems okay.
+ The calendar has events. So does the blog. This creates confusion.
+ On the donation page, it says “Contributions to Metro Justice, Inc are not tax deductible. If you would like to make a Tax-Deductible Donation, please donate on our Metro Justice Education Fund Page.” Is there a way to make that a link?
+ I would move the picture down a bit on the Housing is a Human Right Signup page. But that’s not a big deal.
+ The Task Forces page doesn’t really explain what they are and how they’re different from how metro justice is.
+ The membership page might want to mention that $30 are the minimum dues.
+ What happens if you have a “donate” button that has $5 as the minimum default option, instead of $30?
+ Not sure what the difference is between Volunteer and “Sign Up”
+ Instead of saying “we always want interns” you might want to put more text there. At minimum talk about what cool things interns have done so far. If they haven’t done cool things so far, instead write about how interns can be self-directed and do cool things. Here are a couple sample things you could do: X, Y, Z. No coffee-slinging here!
+ There’s no overview page that explains Metro Justice and why I should take it seriously. No victories page, no page dedicated to cataloging media hits, etc. Check out http://boldprogressives.org/ for it done amazingly well.
Instead of blog, I think embedded the nationbuilder stream would be very good. Is that technically impossible? Have you asked your NationBuilder contact about it?
Maybe the stream should instead be in the main NB page somewhere?
The site seems pretty bare-bones so far, in terms of content. I think that’s fine, since you can always add that later. But make sure you have a good plan for content that doesn’t divide it too much and hide it away.
On the whole, everything works. There are no technical bugs. Things seem integrated well. I think you have a solid platform!
Small fixes include:
+ Making things look better
+ A bit of copy
+ Freshening up the blog
+ Talking more about victories / more inspiring words to convince people that you’re actually making a difference.
But the whole site (on the NB side) seems to be dedicated to getting people to sign up. Which is a good thing! That’s what you want people to do, and it’s good that you’re funneling them that way. You don’t have a strong website, and you won’t have people updating it often (due to staff constraints). If I understand correctly, you’re “re-envisioning” MJ anyways, so it doesn’t make sense to write too much on the website, as it is liable to becoming obsolete. Instead, you’re funneling people to actually talk to you one-on-one. Which is exactly what you want.

The entire contents of the newsletter should be searchable! Let people download the PDF if they want, but each article should absolutely be up in html (on the blog, probably?).
A: Move it all to Nationbuilder! The two URLs is weird and will hurt your search engine rankings.
A: There’s a certain lack of content on the site. Not that many words written about what Metro Justice is. More importantly, no indication of how Metro Justice has been successful.
