Here are a few photos here from last week's midday picket with our friends at NABET-CWA Local 22. We're proud to support them as they continue their fight for a contract! (There are more to see on Instagram, too).
UPCOMING EVENTS
TONIGHT, 6/22 7-8 pm Healthcare Organizing (Zoom) Having heard from our local legislative candidates at last week's Candidate Forum (all of whom enthusiastically support the New York Health Act and promise to champion it "loudly" if elected) we are working to keep the momentum going. 2027 is going to be a year of terrible upheaval in healthcare, with the significant Federal defunding of Medicaid through outright cuts and and the hurried erection of enrollment barriers. If ever there were a year to pass the New York Health Act, this is it. Getting it through the committee process and to the floor for a vote will still require significant public support and pressure — and that will require US! Please join us tonight to learn more about this important opportunity. You can also watch the Forum in its entirety here.
Wednesday, 6/24 6-8 pm RED Organizing - Join Rochester for Energy Democracy this Wednesday, 6pm-8pm, at the Metro Justice office (389 Gregory Street) as we plan out the rest of our summer! We're glad to have won a cap on rate hikes for now — but it will take sustained effort to stand up for this community in the midst of a widespread energy crisis. If you're interested in making a difference by standing up to RG&E, join in or write back to learn about other ways to help the campaign.
Thursday, 6/25 10-2 Elder Justice Committee is recruiting volunteers to staff a table for an hour or two during Senator Pam Helming's Senior Resource Fair on June 25 at Eastview Mall. This is a great opportunity to engage community members about both Elder Justice and the New York Health Act.
Please contact MaryDel ([email protected]) if you can help! While you are there, according to the event description, you can also get answers, guidance, and onsite assistance from state and local partners including: scam prevention and safety tips, finding money owed to you by New York State, and healthcare resources and support services.

Thursday, July 9 7-9pm Whistle Kit Social: Want a fun, easy way to plug in to making our communities safer? Come help us put together ICE alert whistle kits over ice cream and a movie! Attendees will help us replenish our supply as well as take some whistle kits home to distribute to friends and families. You can also meet some like-minded people and pick our brains about how we can minimize the threat of ICE in our community!
Saturday, July 11 noon Canvass Day: Protect Our Neighbors from ICE Join us as we continue our canvassing efforts to keep each other safe from ICE! We will be canvassing to inform neighbors of their rights and build up communities that can provide sanctuary for themselves. Training and snacks will be provided at the Metro Justice Office before we hit the road.

Sunday, July 17 12:30-2:00pm Member & Volunteer Orientation Our next hybrid member & volunteer workshop is coming up already. If you're sick of doomscrolling or refreshing polls then this is a great way to learn about the many ways you can help make a real difference. You can join in person or over Zoom!
Speaking of volunteering — we're pleased to share a call for grant writing and research volunteers! As Metro Justice reboots its Development Committee — with the aim of funding not just ongoing work but new efforts ranging from archival work to ambitious organizing initiatives —we need resources to do so. Whether you're experienced or not with grant-centered (or any other form of) writing or research, we can use your help! Just contact our Fundraising & Membership Coordinator via [email protected] to learn how to jump in.
No space to volunteer but still looking to support what we do? Becoming a Metro Justice Member is always a great way to do so. For decades, membership dues have served to drive our campaign work while keeping us accountable to this community. You can find more about various types of membership here (or check your membership status using our supporter portal). You can also reach out to [email protected] with any questions at all.
