Rochester for Energy Democracy (RED)

Rochester for Energy Democracy (RED) is Metro Justice’s campaign to transform Spanish-owned RG&E in Rochester or Monroe County into a not-for-profit public utility. A locally-controlled, public utility will reduce bills and invest RG&E’s ~$120 Million in yearly profits back to the region, creating more local union jobs, responsive customer service, and a renewable energy transition accessible to all.

Elder Justice Committee

We work to reform New York State nursing home laws to ensure quality care including:

  • Minimum nursing home staffing levels

  • Nursing home requirements to spend at least 70% of revenue of on direct care and services

  • Transparency and accountability of nursing homes

We advocate for necessary enforcement of all laws and regulations and effective oversight of long-term care facilities. We speak out for nursing homes to be held accountable for proving quality care. We communicate with lawmakers about policies and legislation that affect adults in long-term care. We provide community outreach, education, and public forums.
