RG&E Shut Offs Triple in 2024!!

The new RG&E numbers for 2024 are startling! Over 12,000 homes were shutoff; while RG&E Profits Rose to $121 million.

RG&E is the same company, owned by foreign multinational Iberdrola, that sent an average of 44,000 illegal shut off notices a month during the COVID-19 shutoff moratorium between June 2020 to Dec 2021 - just to scare people into paying, even though they knew they would get that money back from NY State.

RG&E should not be shutting off our citizens!! Ratepayers already pay for all of RG&E’s operating costs, plus now $121 million on top of that in profit. Included in that is money for them to lobby politicians and misinform the public to block our community from making our own decisions about our energy. Recently, in addition they’ve also gotten millions more in taxpayer money for what exactly? Unreliable service, miss-billing us, and horrendous customer service?

RG&E seemed to go on a shut off rampage from Aug-Oct of 2024, with 2,813 shut offs in September alone. This may be because there are additional restrictions on shut offs starting November 1 of each year. Also this year there were dramatic escalations of 3 day shut off notices directly before the time people were eligible for additional assistance through HEAP.
