Metro Justice Annual Dinner! Online Edition for 2021

Metro Justice Council & Staff at the 2019 Annual Dinner

You are cordially invited to Metro Justice's 2021 Annual Dinner! For decades, the Annual Dinner has been one of our biggest and most beloved event of the year: a celebration of the work done so far, a time to inspire for the work yet to come, and an opportunity to bring together the local progressive community. It’s also a critical fundraiser that keeps us independent and truly grassroots. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we've opted again to host the Annual Dinner as a virtual event!

While the pandemic keeps us physically apart for our safety, we can still come together remotely to build community and celebrate resistance. We are honored to announce that this year's Keynote Speaker will be Michael Lighty of the Sanders Institute! Michael Lighty is considered a preeminent spokesperson and expert on Medicare for All. For over 30 years, Lighty has organized, written and spoken on the subject. Michael is currently Medicare For All consultant with National Union of Healthcare Workers and is President of Healthy California Now, the state single payer coalition.

Please scroll to the bottom of this page for all ticket, sponsorship, and takeout dinner information. Scholarship tickets are available by contacting our Lead Organizer, Mohini Sharma, at [email protected]. We encourage you to order a meal from one of two participating local, woman-owned, or black-owned restaurants: Voula's Greek Sweets or Caribbean Heritage Restaurant. We must have your food order by Saturday, October 16th so that we can coordinate between you and the restaurant for your dinner. The Zoom link for the dinner will be sent to you within a week of your ticket purchase! Please purchase your ticket no later than 12 PM on Saturday October 23rd so that we can make sure you get your Zoom link.

We hope you join us!

Keynote Speaker - Michael Lighty

Michael has served as Healthcare Constituency Director for Bernie 2020. From 1994 until 2018, Michael worked for the California Nurses Association/NNU where he coordinated campaigns for an HMO patients’ bill of rights, clean money elections, and nationally for a Robin Hood Tax on Wall Street, and was lead policy analyst for a single-payer bill, the Healthy California Act. Lighty was the first openly LGBTQ Commissioner for the Port of Oakland, appointed by Mayor Ronald Dellums in 2010. He was Jerry Brown’s first mayoral appointee to the Oakland Planning Commission in 1999. He serves on the Board of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Center in Oakland, CA, where he lives with his husband.
