The time has come for Monroe County to do the right thing about the RG&E crisis: commission and fund a study on replacing RG&E with a local, not-for-profit, public utility!
Did you know that we can vote out the foreign-owned, for-profit corporation that owns and controls RG&E? RG&E and their foreign owners continue to overcharge and fail our community without accountability. But, it doesn't have to stay this way. We can vote out the multinational, for-profit corporation that owns RG&E and replace them with a publicly owned utility!
Initiating an implementation study at the county level is our crucial first step toward achieving a public utility that works for local residents instead of distant shareholders. The people of Monroe County have already waited too long for a public solution to the corporate greed and persistent incompetence of RG&E. The City of Rochester already did its part last June by contributing funding for a county-wide study. Now it's Monroe County's turn to step up.
Come out for the County Legislature Meeting on Tuesday April 9th, as close to 5pm as possible, where we'll demand the vote for the study our community needs. The Meeting itself starts at 6 PM, but we ask that you arrive as close to 5 PM as you can so that we have the best chance at packing the Chambers. We strongly encourage you to sign up to speak, so that County Legislatures see strong support for a study.
To speak: Call David Grant, Clerk of the County Legislature, at 585-753-1950 to register to sign up to speak as soon as possible. You will likely have to leave a voicemail with your name, phone number, address, and topic that you'll speaking on, and if you're representing yourself or an organization. If you sign up to speak, please email Mohini Sharma (mohini@metrojustice) and Michelle Wenderlich ([email protected]) to let us know! You will have a strict 2 minutes to speak. Here is a guideline for your remarks.
Wear red or a Metro Justice shirt! You can now only enter the building via side entrances on Fitzhugh Street or Irving Street. You will have to go through security, and no signs are allowed. The County Legislature Chambers are on the 4th Floor (accessible via elevator) and we will have more information for attendees there.
While you're at it, email Adam Bello and the 2 Democrats who haven't yet sided with the rest of their Caucus here: bit.ly/emailbello
