Fight for 15 Solidarity SignUp

maydayFF15.jpgIf fast-food workers are going to win $15/hour and a union, they are going to need the support of other activists and organizers in the Rochester community.

There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities with the campaign where you can learn some great organizing skills and engage in an important and historic campaign for economic justice. This campaign is almost entirely volunteer-run and, like the rest of Metro Justice, lives or dies on the strength of our volunteer teams. This fight doesn't happen without you, so sign up below and get involved.

These are some of the volunteer roles that we need filled. After you sign-up, an organizer will be in touch with you to offer support and find out how you'd most like to be involved.

  • Organizing Team: The Organizing Team is the heart of this campaign, and requires a considerable commitment. Volunteer organizers are trained in how to recruit workers, build a contact list, and develop the leadership skills of fast-food workers in the area. Metro Justice offers training to committed organizers and on-going support to help you succeed. But, this is only for those people that can assure they will be reliable and commit at least a few hours per week.
  • Media Team: Our Media Team is helping to coordinate outreach to local media as well as the creation of our own media for the campaign. We need people with real skills in social media, writing, video, and photography to help us publicize this campaign as far and wide as possible. We need every fast-food worker in town to know we exist and what we're doing.
  • Research Team: Who are the owners of local fast-food restaurants? How much does Burger King spend on executive bonuses? How much does the average fast-food worker earn per year in Rochester? We need people that can do the digging to discover the answer to these questions.
  • Training Team: Building organization is about leadership development. We need to regularly offer training to local activists and fast-food workers about the skills and knowledge necessary to build a real movement. You don't need to know all the skills to offer the training, you just need to help us coordinate a schedule of training events and publicize them with local workers.
  • Legal Support Team: It's possible over the course of the campaign that we will need legal support to help protect workers from retaliation or support them improve their work conditions. We will need the support of local progressive attorneys to do this work.

As you can see. There is a lot to do to make sure that fast food workers win their fight. Sign up now and get involved!
