Jose Coyote Perez, a farmworker, father, and community leader in Upstate NY has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Jose has been a longtime champion in the fight for farmworker rights and is an active leader of the Alianza Agricola and Central New York Workers' Center. When fast food workers in Rochester have gone on strike, Jose has gone to great lengths to join them in the streets and share a message of solidarity from farmworkers.
We demand ICE return Jose to his family immediately!
All of this comes as Trump re-submits an executive order banning immigration from 6 nations and halting most refugee resettlement. The Trump administration continues to scapegoat immigrants and threaten their communities emboldening local agencies to crack down on the immigrants in our lives.
As raids increase in frequency, there is a clear need to begin a fight-back to support our friends, neighbors, coworkers that are being threatened by an anti-immigrant government. When leaders like Jose are detained and threatened with deportation, we need to show federal authorities that they will have many more people to deal with.
