Community Meeting for a Public Utility - Metro Justice

CANCELLED: Community Meeting for a Public Utility

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED TO MAKE TIME FOR A PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK, REACH OUT WITH QUESTIONS OR TO GET INVOLVED!

Fed up with RG&E? You're not alone, and there is a solution: we can vote out the foreign-owned corporation that owns and controls RG&E!

RG&E's track record speaks volumes—surprise billing, exorbitant rates, terrible customer service, and rising rates have plagued our community for far too long. It's time for change.

If you live in Fairport, your power company is actually under public, local, and community control already. All Monroe County residents deserve the same.

Replacing RG&E with a public utility in all of Monroe County is necessary and holds the promise of lower rates, improved service, the restoration of good local union jobs, and a renewable energy transition accessible to all.

The crucial first step towards acheiving this goal is for Monroe County to fully fund and commission a study on replacing RG&E with a local public utility. In June, the City of Rochester committed $500,000 towards a county-wide study. Now it's time for the Monroe County Legislature to step up.

Metro Justice's Rochester for Energy Democracy Campaign (RED) is determined to organize the public support we need to win a study from the County Legislature this spring. It's especially important that we win the vote of three Democratic legislators that have not yet supported doing a study. Together, these legislators represent Henrietta, Pittsford, Fairport/Perinton, and East Rochester. To make them do the right thing, we need to build more support among residents in these neighborhoods. That's where you come in!

Come to a campaign orientation for people in these districts, where you’ll meet other supportive residents in your area and learn more about the RED Campaign. You'll have the opportunity to share your stories about RG&E, ask questions about public utilities and the steps to create one locally, and discuss how to bring in more people to stand strong against RG&E and push legislators to study creating a public utility.

Pizza and non-alcoholic drinks provided; children welcome! Please contact [email protected] with any dietary requests or other accessibility concerns.
