Have you been looking for a way to step up in solidarity with the Native Nations of New York? There's an excellent opportunity this coming Tuesday February 25 from 7-9pm (doors at 6:30) to watch a short film screening about the Tonawanda Seneca's (Ta:nöwö:deʼ Onödowáʼga꞉) fight for their way of life, hear directly from Nation leadership, and discuss ongoing ways to be in solidarity. Please join Metro Justice and the many other co-sponsors of this event on Tuesday at First Unitarian!
Solidarity with the Tonawanda Seneca is particularly important at the moment because the Nation is fighting to defend their Treaty rights and the region's ecosystems and water resources against an acute threat:
The STAMP Industrial Development Site, located on the western edge of Genesee County, has been a threat to the Tonawanda Seneca Nation's sovereignty, way of life, and Treaty rights for years. Most recently, Genesee County Economic Development Council has put forward three different data center projects on the site, and the Tonawanda Seneca need our solidarity to stop them from moving forward. Join Citizens of the Nation and their allies for a short film screening and discussion of these issues on February 25th from 7-9pm at the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 Winton Road S. Doors open at 6:30.
The Tonawanda Seneca need the support and solidarity of people all across our region to ensure their way of life is protected, along with a more livable and vibrant state for us all. Please join us on 2/25 to learn more and get involved. Register here to let us know you're coming!
