Welcome to Metro Justice's Rochester for Energy Democracy (R.E.D.) Campaign! Over the last month, we have received dozens of new signatures on our petition to replace Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) with a public, not-for-profit utility that is governed democratically by our community and has concrete commitments to a green and just energy transition.
In R.E.D., we believe that in order to ensure electricity and heat as human rights, and combat the climate crisis in the long-term, we must create a community owned and operated energy economy. By signing our petition, you've indicated that you do too!
A community-driven energy system needs involvement from people in our community to succeed. When we fight together, we can win! That is why the R.E.D. Committee welcomes you to the campaign with a virtual orientation and workshop! This orientation is on Wednesday, July 8th from 5:30-7:30 PM and will occur via Zoom. Details on how to join the online Zoom conference will be sent to you after you RSVP.
During this orientation, you will get to know the existing members and leadership of the campaign, have space to ask questions, and hear each other's stories for why a public utility should replace RG&E. You will also participate in a workshop that explains what all the charges on your energy bill actually mean for what's going on behind the scenes, and how a public utility could change that system to improve our livelihoods.
You must RSVP so that we can send you all the information you need to join. RSVP by filling out the form below!
