Single Payer Public Hearings

CNYH_Logo.jpgMomentum is building for Single Payer health care in New York State! The sponsor of New York's Single Payer bill, Assemblyman Richard Gottfried is holding a series of hearings across the state about the need for genuinely universal health care. This is an incredibly important opportunity for Metro Justice members to show how much support there is in our region for Single Payer. We can't let this hearing happen without our vocal support! Join us, along with our allies in Healthcare-NOW, New York State Nurses Association, and Physicians for a National Health Program in making this a powerful event in support of Health Care as a Human Right!

This series of public hearings around the state will review the effects and costs of the current health coverage system on patients, health care providers, employers, labor, taxpayers and health and health care. It will review how the single-payer system would work in New York.

Persons wishing to testify or attend should complete the hearing reply form below and return as indicated as soon as possible, but no later than the dates indicated on the reply form. It is important that the form be fully completed and returned so that persons may be notified in the event of emergency postponement or cancellation. If time does not permit all witnesses to testify in person, they may still submit written testimony.

If you're interested in giving testimony, please contact Kelly Spahr at (585)857-9738.

We also need to fill the auditorium with as many supporters as we can. Show up, bring friends, and wear your Metro Justice shirts!

Hi there -- To download the form to attend a hearing (referred to above) you can use the url https://d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net/pnhpnymetro/pages/111/attachments/original/1414002246/PUBLIC_HEARING_REPLY_FORM.pdf?1414002246. I don't think it is in the above description of the event. As the mother of a survivor of childhood leukemia, I know what the inequities of the system do, especially when our children undergo risks of further illness and will perpetually need to be monitored right up into old age. Many are at the mercy of a private profit medical system that doesn't care about them. I fear for my daughter's future, as I'm sure many similar parents do. I'm planning to share this event with other childhood cancer families in the hopes that some, who have not thought about this, will come. Also anyone else I can find.

I asked someone on the Assembly Health Committee staff why they booked a hearing room that only holds 200 people. She replied that they don't expect even that number. I'd LOVE to prove them wrong and let them know how much support there is for single payer.
