The New York Health Act
is a bill in the state legislature (read it here) that would guarantee medical, dental, vision, hearing, mental health, addiction and long term care to every New York resident, and split the cost fairly and predictably based on income. It would also replace our swamp of profiteering insurance with a single payer, saving so much in corporate profits and administrative costs that the overall bill for medical care statewide would be $11 billion cheaper than it is now.
Join us on Monday, 12/11 at 6:00 pm for a holiday potluck and information on how volunteers can help move this campaign forward, joining a statewide movement! RSVP here
90% of New Yorkers would save money compared to what they are paying now, low and middle income workers would save the most, and everyone would have a doctor and be able to go in for necessary healthcare without worrying about the cost - no deductibles, no co-pays, no co-insurance, no surprise bills, no out of pocket; just one monthly income-based premium.
This bill has been around since 1992, and it was cosponsored by a majority of the NY Senate and Assembly in 2021. Our legislators know it would help their constituents. So why hasn't it passed? Because we, the people, need to organize ourselves to overcome corporate lobbying. We did it with the $15 minimum wage, we can do it with healthcare!
As a founding organization of the statewide Campaign for New York Health, Metro Justice is working toward a more equitable, just health system by passing the New York Health Act (NYHA). NYHA would guarantee truly universal health care to all New Yorkers. People will get the health care they need, when they need it, and it will cost less than the current system. To join the movement so that we have the people power we need to win, sign the petition below and RSVP for our monthly organizing meeting! One of our volunteers will follow up with you on getting involved. Rochester for NY Health meets on the last Monday of every month from 6-7:30 PM. You can RSVP by visiting our upcoming events page!
